I was recently working with a student who had created a graph with two attributes. She had checked off find percent by row–and that was what was displayed in the ruler menu–but the percents computed were actually by column. I couldn’t figure out what was going on, but then realized that she had at some point flipped the attributes by dragging one to the other axis so that the attribute that had been on the x axis was now on the y axis and vice versa. When I “unflipped” the attributes, putting them back where she had originally placed them, the percent function worked correctly. This is the first time I’ve seen something like this, but wanted to flag it. If you switch attributes, the percent tool might still be computing based on the original placement of the attributes not the new placement.
