image quality issues upon export

I’m part of a team trying to publish something that includes graph screenshots from CODAP (which we love!). The journal’s production assistant is bothered by the image quality: it feels too pixelated for them. Is there a way to get more resolution? One idea would be to export in a vector format like SVG instead of a raster format like PNG or JPG, if that’s possible. Another idea would be having an adjustable resolution option in the export dialog. I know we could make the graph bigger on the screen before exporting or using the snipping-tool, but then the text (axis labels and numbers) end up much smaller than they should be relative to the picture size once we shrink it back down to fit in the article.

Hi Andrew,

This problem has occurred for a couple other folks and it’s on our list. Sorry that we haven’t gotten to it yet!

What we suggest is the following:

1. On a large monitor, fill up the screen with your CODAP window.
2. Use the browser View menu to increase the resolution as much as you can, keeping your graph in view.
3. Now do a screen capture.

When you shrink the screen captured image back down to what you want, it will be of higher resolution. Some tools will let you set the pixels per inch of the image.

One quick solution would be to use the browser zoom to increase the size of the graph before taking a screenshot. That will keep the proportions in the graph and give you many more pixels.
