I have some CODAP docs on Google Drive and suddenly when I try to open them it says “authorization necessary to open file – do you want to proceed with authorization?” And if I click “yes,” nothing happens. I was able to open these documents just a few days ago.
February 11, 2021 at 4:00 pm #6310More info – these files are on Google Drive and are not owned by me, but are shared with me. Could that be a problem? It didn’t used to be..
February 11, 2021 at 4:02 pm #6311I wasn’t logged in to Google Drive, according to CODAP – although I WAS logged in to Google Drive enough to access all of the files. Could you clarify the relationship of CODAP and Google Drive?
February 11, 2021 at 6:04 pm #6314Bill FinzerKeymasterHi Andee,
There has been a change to CODAP’s relationship to Google Drive as of yesterday. Thanks for the alert that things have changed in normal usage. We’re investigating how.
February 11, 2021 at 6:14 pm #6315Bill FinzerKeymasterHi again,
We think that once you have logged into Google Drive in CODAP things will go back to the way they have always been. It’s the transition to a new Google Drive API that has caused this.
Note: You can log in to Google Drive in CODAP by choosing OPEN and then clicking on the Google Drive option. If you’re not already logged in, that’s where you’ll see the login button.
Hope this helps and let us know of any further problems,
Bill
February 12, 2021 at 7:34 pm #6316Kathy ShaferParticipantHi guys, I have been having this problem all week. My students are not able to open the links to the files I have been sharing. I don’t think that should be dependent on the browser they are using. Also, I am working from within the Drive account I have use for many years. I understand it is probably a chrome thing but very frustrating as I was teaching stats this past week. Also, it does not appear that the files are autosaving. Kathy
February 12, 2021 at 7:38 pm #6317noblestatman61@gmail.comParticipantI am also experiencing the same thing with files in a CODAP folder on my Google Drive. CODAP recognizes the folder, but it does not recognize any of the .codap files in the folder.

February 12, 2021 at 7:49 pm #6318Kathy ShaferParticipantOh, a bit more, I don’t think it should matter what Drive account students are in when opening the shared link. My guess is that the issue is on my end. I hate that the API in Google Chrome is causing this issue as we LOVE CODAP.
February 12, 2021 at 8:28 pm #6319Bill FinzerKeymasterHi folks,
Just to be clear, the bottom line is that you need to:
- From within CODAP choose Open from the “three strips” menu in the upper left corner.
- Choose Google Drive.
- Login to your Google account.
This is a one-time thing. After having logged via CODAP you will be able to open CODAP documents from Google Drive by double-clicking.
Note, this has nothing to do with shared CODAP documents since those are stored separately from Google Drive.
Hope this helps,
Bill
February 26, 2021 at 2:10 pm #6329I seem to keep running into these problems on and off – it’s hard to diagnose when they occur. But one thing you COULD change – there is a typo in the CODAP error message – it ways “unabled to upload file.” Since, unfortunately, I’ve seen this message multiple times, I’ve noticed the typo…
February 26, 2021 at 4:07 pm #6330Bill FinzerKeymasterHi Andee,
I’m sorry that you still have occasional problems with saving to and opening from Google Drive. If you get a better sense of when the problem occurs, please let us know and we’ll try to reproduce and fix it.
And thanks for the typo tip!
Bill
