Import Data By Copying To/Pasting From The Clipboard

There are multiple ways to import data into a table in CODAP. In addition to importing data from a URL and importing data from a CSV, CODAP, or TXT file, it is possible to copy data from a table to your clipboard and then paste the clipboard data into a new table in CODAP.

Copying data from a table outside CODAP

The following steps/GIF show how to copy data from a spreadsheet to create a new table in CODAP (using this spreadsheet and as an example):

  1. Select the data you wish to copy from the table and then copy it to your clipboard. Make sure that the top row you copy is a row with attribute names.
  2. Open the CODAP document (or create a new CODAP document) where you would like the data to appear.
  3. Click on the “Tables” icon, then select “new from clipboard.” A new table will appear with the copied data, with the default title of “clipboard data.”

Copying data from an existing CODAP table

The following steps/GIF show how to copy data from an existing CODAP table to create a new table in CODAP, using the mammals sample dataset as an example:

  1. Click on the ruler icon to the right of the table and select “Copy to Clipboard.” A box will appear to indicate you have successfully copied the data. Note that if any attributes are hidden or any cases are set aside in the table, these attributes/cases will not be copied to the clipboard.
  2. Open the CODAP document (or create a new CODAP document) where you would like the data to appear.
  3. Click on the “Tables” icon, then select “new from clipboard.” A new table will appear with the copied data, with the default title of “clipboard data.”
